What is Biophilic Design and Sustainable Architecture? The consequences of the impact of our ecological footprint are increasingly evident. Climate activism and a renewed interest in the great outdoors are leading consumers to prioritise the environment with every purchase. As a result, architects and designers are focusing on a biophilic design using organic materials and large green spaces. |
Consumers want more access to nature in their everyday activities and purchases. Homeowners and potential customers are prioritising green spaces and visiting garden centres in historic numbers. People are blending organic design and maximising flora even in small places. |
In addition to biophilic interior design, we have given greater attention to sustainable building throughout the years. Sustainable architecture is sometimes known as green architecture or environmental architecture. It encourages architects to create smart designs and employ existing technologies to ensure that structures have minimal negative effects on the ecosystem and communities. |
One of the most pressing issues about sustainability, an idea that is increasingly being incorporated into interior design and architecture, is the impact that human actions have on this generation, but especially on future generations. The plant parent mania has reached new heights. Sales at speciality plant stores and independent shops are increasing, particularly online. Passionate collectors and newcomers alike are looking for eye-catching plants, stands, and pottery to capture nature's mood-boosting advantages. |
How to decorate using Biophilic Design? You can also assist your clients in transforming their living spaces and outside areas into greener sanctuaries. It is essential in this sort of interior design to keep the main attention on a specific region, whether it is an inside garden, a glass wall overlooking the groove, or even wallpaper with a forest background. Upgrade products with organic materials, natural surfaces and curvilinear forms that evoke the natural world. |
Large Windows living spaces |
If the house is surrounded by vegetation, it is always a good idea to opt for large, wide windows. It is one of the easiest ways to merge the exterior with the interior and invite nature into the house. The Cabo de Vila house is an excellent example that embraces nature without compromising the specific style that the designer wanted for the furniture. In this project, carried out exclusively by Laskasas, the interior designer chose to wrap the entire house in glass rather than make radical alterations to the style of the furniture. |
In this way, it achieved a great balance, emphasising nature, particularly in the indoor patio visible from all rooms of the house. This house demonstrates biophilic design on both an architectural and interior design level, such as the fact that the home office faces the central patio, and the fireplace is almost bonded to the best outer view of the surrounding flora. All concept is almost as if the owner lived within a greenhouse with all the luxuries of a modern and technologically advanced home. |
Some key ideas to keep in mind:1. Blur the boundary between inside and outside. Even with a small backyard, patio or deck, outdoor rooms can be created in the tiniest of spaces. In nearly every climate they can be used as workspaces or living rooms for around six months of the year. Spending more time outside while feeling sheltered blurs the separation between inside and outside in your home. 2. Create prospects and refuge Enclosed spaces where we can feel secure but at the same time look out into the distance help to restore our sense of safety and comfort. 3. Order and complexity Nature has both order and complexity, while every leaf has a similar shape, they are all slightly different in size. |
