5 Highlight Trends from Salone del Mobile 2024
Salone del Mobile, one of the world's leading furniture and design fairs, recently wrapped up its 2024 edition in Milan, Italy. The event showcased an array of innovative designs and emerging trends that are set to shape the future of interior design.

Among the myriad of trends observed, several stood out prominently, reflecting a growing emphasis on nature-inspired aesthetics and organic elements.

Let's delve into the key trends that stole the spotlight at Salone del Mobile 2024:

1. Biophilic Design

At the forefront of the design landscape was the concept of biophilic design, which seeks to integrate nature and natural elements into interior spaces. This trend was evident in the use of living walls and the incorporation of greenery within furniture and decor. Biophilic design not only enhances aesthetics but also promotes wellbeing by fostering a deeper connection with the natural world.

Molteni and Roda, both Italian brands, had this trend very present on their stands alongside their new outdoor collections.

2. Curved Furniture

Embracing softer, more fluid shapes, curved furniture made a significant impact at Salone del Mobile 2024. From sinuous sofas to sculptural armchairs, designers showcased a departure from rigid lines in favour of organic curves. This trend not only adds visual interest but also contributes to a sense of comfort and relaxation within interior environments.

We spotted the Spanish from Expormim and Gandķa Blasco presenting this trend, favouring wood structures, while the Italians from Kartell showcased curved armchairs and sofas fully upholstered.

3. Organic Forms

Reflecting a move towards more fluid and dynamic design language, organic forms were prevalent throughout the exhibition. Furniture pieces and accessories featured flowing contours and irregular shapes inspired by nature. This departure from traditional geometric shapes adds an element of spontaneity and natural beauty to interiors.

Flexform had the perfect example with this sofa that stole the show with visitors stopping to appreciate the unusual fluid shape. The Italians from Minotti also showcased organic forms, with chubby sofas upholstered in bouclé fabric — which has become difficult to know whether it is a trend to stay or fade in 2024. Many say that the fabric belongs to the past, however, many brands chose to present it at the Salone. Also Porada presented whats seems to resemble a Scandinavian organic shaped dining chair.

4. Natural Materials

In line with the sustainability movement, there was a notable emphasis on the use of natural materials in furniture and decor. Wood, stone, rattan, and other sustainable materials took centre stage, exuding warmth, texture, and authenticity. The shift towards natural materials underscores a commitment to environmental consciousness and craftsmanship.

5. Transparencies

Transparency emerged as a key design element, adding a sense of lightness and openness to interiors. Glass, acrylic, and other translucent materials were incorporated into furniture, partitions, and accessories, creating visual depth and enhancing spatial flow. This trend fosters an airy, modern aesthetic while maintaining a connection to the surrounding environment. Laskasas has done it beautifully with the Morrison bar cabinet and the Austen sideboard.
